Fond memories of walking across Spain in the summer of 2012 have led me to decide to explore my own back yard. Many of the elements can be captured here at home: being on foot, having the necessities in a back pack, beautiful places to walk and chance encounters with like minded individuals.

Since 1992 Canadians have been working together to create a 24,000 km trail that will run right across Canada, the Trans Canada Trail . It is about 75% complete at this point. A portion of the trail arcs around my home town and it became obvious that using existing trails in the area, it is possible to do a 100 km loop including my hometown and several of the surrounding cities using pieces of the Trans Canada Trail and other trails in the area.

So, I am going to explore my own back yard and get out on this trail. I’ll be posting about it on this site.
